Zoom’s Basic (Free) Plan limits meetings to 40 minutes, after which the session automatically ends. Vinyl will record the meeting until it is disconnected, but it will not automatically rejoin if the meeting is restarted.

This guide explains how Vinyl handles Zoom’s free-tier restrictions and the steps you need to take if your meeting is cut off and restarted.

How Vinyl Handles Zoom’s Free-Tier Restrictions

When using Zoom’s free plan, meetings automatically end once they reach the 40-minute limit. Here’s how this affects Vinyl’s recording process:

  • Vinyl will record and transcribe the meeting normally until Zoom ends the session.

  • Once the meeting is disconnected, Vinyl cannot rejoin automatically if the host starts a new session.

  • If you restart the meeting, Vinyl will need to be manually added again to continue recording.

If you frequently have longer meetings, upgrading to a Zoom Pro plan will allow uninterrupted Vinyl recordings.

Steps to Reconnect Vinyl if a Meeting Is Restarted

If your Zoom meeting ends due to the 40-minute limit and you need Vinyl to continue recording:

  1. Restart the Zoom meeting as usual.

  2. Go to Vinyl, click Meetings and click Create Ad-Hoc Meeting.

  3. Paste the new Zoom meeting link.

  4. Click "Create" to add Vinyl back into the session.

This will create a separate recording and transcript for the second session. If you want to keep everything organised, you can manually combine the summaries and transcriptions afterward.
