Start a Chat with Ask Vinyl

Updated today

Ask Vinyl turns your meetings into action, automatically handling follow-ups, preparing you for what's next, and surfacing intelligence across your entire meeting history.

This article walks you through the basics of starting a conversation with Ask Vinyl. You’ll learn where to find it, how to get a chat going, and what to expect once you begin asking questions.

Ask Vinyl Directly

You can start a chat from your Vinyl dashboard:

  1. Click the Ask Vinyl page to a new chat window.

  2. Select a meeting to start chatting

  3. Type in your question and hit Enter.

Ask Vinyl can work with one meeting or multiple meetings at once. You can add more meetings if you want broader context across several calls. Ask Vinyl will only use the meetings you select.

Note: Larger or multiple meetings may take a little longer to load.

When you start a new chat, Ask Vinyl prepares the context in the background. You’ll see a short loading state while transcripts and recordings are processed. Once ready, the chat is active and you can start asking questions

Type a clear, simple question related to the meeting content. For example, ask about decisions, next steps, or specific topics discussed.

  1. Follow Ups:

"Write me two follow-ups based on this meeting. One to the client as an email, and one to my team mentioned here so they know what to do."

  2. Querying specifics:

"Identify and expand on the SERVICE RELATED ACCOUNTING SPECIFIC we talked about for XYZ Pty Ltd."

  3. Multi-meeting:

"Based on these meetings, produce a detailed client summary. Ensure to include the business structure, the services we provide, the services we could look to offer in the future, and more personal aspects of the client's personality and expectations."

As you submit your question, responses stream in gradually, quotes, timestamps, and speaker details may appear where relevant. You can scroll, pause, or jump back to the meeting at any point.

Ask Vinyl for Follow-up Questions

You can continue the conversation naturally. Ask Vinyl remembers the context of the current chat, so follow-up questions build on previous answers. This works well when you want to dig deeper into the same discussion or clarify details.

🔴 Continue the same chat when you are exploring the same meeting or line of questioning.

🔴 Start a new chat if you want a clean slate, are switching topics, or are selecting different meetings.

Starting a new chat resets the conversation but does not affect past chats, which remain saved with the meeting. Your chat history is stored with the meeting, so you can come back later and pick up where you left off.

Ask Vinyl is designed to help you explore meeting content quickly, while always keeping the original transcript and recording close at hand.
