Understanding Vinyl's billing and charges

How Vinyl billing works, including advance billing, what happens when you cancel, and how to query a charge.

Vinyl is a subscription service that bills in arrears β€” meaning your payment is charged at the end of each billing period, not upfront. Here's how it works and what to expect.

How billing works

When you sign up to Vinyl, your first payment is charged 30 days after your sign-up date β€” at the end of your first billing period. After that, you are billed automatically at the end of each subsequent billing cycle.

Because billing happens at the end of the period, a charge will still be processed even if you cancel during that period. For example, if you sign up on the 1st and cancel on the 2nd, your payment for the full billing period will still be charged at the end of that 30-day cycle.

What happens when you cancel

When you cancel your subscription, your access continues until the end of your current billing period. You will receive one final charge at the end of that period for the time used, and you will not be billed again after that.

  • Monthly plans: One final charge is processed at the end of the current 30-day billing cycle, then billing stops.

  • Annual plans: Your subscription runs for the full annual term. Cancellation takes effect at the end of that term.

Annual plans

Annual subscriptions are billed for the full year at the end of the annual period. If you cancel an annual plan mid-term, your access continues through to the end of that annual period. If you have questions about your remaining term or next billing date, contact our support team and we'll walk you through it.
