Vinyl won't record on Android — check your notification permission

If Vinyl stops recording in-person meetings on Android despite microphone access being enabled, enabling notification permissions and restarting the app usually resolves it.

What's happening

If Vinyl stops working for in-person or mobile recordings on Android — even though you've already granted microphone access — the issue is usually caused by a missing notification permission. Without it, the app can't start or manage recordings properly.

This is a known issue currently being investigated by the Vinyl team. The steps below are a workaround that resolves it for most users.

How to fix it

  1. Long-press the Vinyl app icon on your home screen or app drawer, then tap App info.

  2. Tap Notifications and make sure Allow notifications is toggled on.
Alternatively: go to Settings → Apps → Vinyl → Notifications and enable from there.

  3. Return to the app list, long-press Vinyl again, and tap Force stop.

  4. Reopen Vinyl and try starting a recording.

Still not working?

If recording still doesn't start after following the steps above, please contact the Vinyl support team via the chat icon in the app or email [email protected] with your device model and Android version.
