How Ask Vinyl chats and documents are saved

Where to find your previous Ask Vinyl conversations, who can see them, and how to save or export anything you've created.

Overview

When you use Ask Vinyl to generate a summary, draft an email, create a diagram, or ask questions about a meeting, those conversations are saved automatically. Here's where to find them and what you can do with them.

Where your chats are saved — Past Chats

Every conversation you have in Ask Vinyl is saved in the Past Chats section, which appears below the main chat window in the Ask Vinyl panel.

To access your previous chats:

  1. Open any meeting in Vinyl

  2. Click the Ask Vinyl tab on the right-hand side

  3. Scroll down to Past Chats to see all previous conversations tied to that meeting

  4. Click any previous chat to reopen it and continue from where you left off

Each chat is stored against the specific meeting it was created in.

Who can see your chats?

Your Ask Vinyl chats are private to you. Team members who open the same meeting will not see your conversations — they only see their own. This means you can explore, draft, and iterate without it being visible to the rest of the team.

Working across multiple meetings

You're not limited to asking questions about a single meeting. You can open a broader Ask Vinyl session and pull in multiple meetings at once:

  1. At the bottom of any Ask Vinyl chat, click the permanent link icon to open the full Ask Vinyl workspace

  2. From here, you can add multiple meetings to the context

  3. Ask Vinyl will draw on all selected meetings to answer your questions or create documents

This is useful when you want to compare meetings, summarise a series of client conversations, or spot themes across multiple sessions.

Saving and exporting what you've created

Ask Vinyl can generate documents, diagrams, emails, file notes, and more. Once you've created something, you have a few options:

  • Copy to clipboard — copy the content and paste it wherever you need it (email, Karbon note, FYI document, etc.)

  • Download as PDF — available for most document types created in Ask Vinyl

  • Save as email draft — if you've generated an email and have Gmail or Outlook connected, you can save it directly as a draft or send it

Can I push Ask Vinyl content directly to Karbon or FYI?

Not currently. Ask Vinyl chats and documents live in Vinyl — they aren't automatically synced to your practice management system. To get something into Karbon or FYI, you can copy the content and paste it into a timeline note manually, or download as a PDF and attach it to the relevant record.

We know this is something many customers want — the ability to push Ask Vinyl outputs directly into Karbon, FYI, or other tools is on our roadmap. If this is important to your workflow, let us know via the chat in the app.
