What is voiceprint?
Voiceprint is a short biometric scan of your voice that allows Vinyl to recognise you in recordings. Once set up, Vinyl can accurately label your speech in transcripts and meeting notes with around 95% accuracy — even in a noisy room. That applies to both your in-person and online meetings.
Why we recommend everyone at your firm sets it up
The more team members who have a voiceprint, the more accurate your transcripts become. This matters most when multiple people are in the room together — for example, recording a client meeting on a mobile device with two or three advisers present. Without voiceprints, Vinyl may struggle to tell those voices apart.
We recommend every person at your firm completes their voiceprint setup. It only takes about a minute and only needs to be done once.
What happens without a voiceprint?
Without a voiceprint, Vinyl will still transcribe your meetings — but speakers will appear as generic labels like Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. You or your team would then need to manually identify and relabel each speaker after the meeting. The more people in the room, the more time that takes. Setting up a voiceprint removes that work entirely.
Is my voiceprint private?
Yes — completely. Your voiceprint is used solely by Vinyl to label your voice in your own meetings. It is not shared, not used in any other context, and does not contribute to training any AI models. It exists only to make your transcripts more accurate.
How to set up your voiceprint
Open the Vinyl mobile app on your phone.
Go to Settings → Voiceprint.
Follow the on-screen prompts — you'll be asked to read a short phrase aloud so Vinyl can capture your voice.
Once the recording is accepted, your voiceprint is saved and active.
