What's happening
When you try to connect your Microsoft 365 (Outlook) calendar to Vinyl, you may be taken to the Microsoft sign-in screen and see a message saying that an administrator needs to approve the connection — for example "Need admin approval" or "Approval required". This stops the calendar from connecting.
Why it happens
Some organisations set their Microsoft 365 environment so that only an IT administrator can approve new apps that connect to company accounts. This is a security setting controlled by your organisation, not by Vinyl. When this setting is on, your account can't approve the Vinyl connection on its own and the request has to be authorised by whoever manages your IT.
How to fix it
Ask the person who manages your organisation's IT or Microsoft 365 administration to authorise Vinyl. They can do this by approving the access request when you attempt to connect, or by approving Vinyl from the Microsoft admin centre. Once Vinyl has been authorised, return to Vinyl and connect your calendar again — the admin message should no longer appear.
Good to know
There is currently no way to bypass this approval step during onboarding. The connection can only go ahead once your IT administrator has authorised it. If you're not sure who manages this for your organisation, your internal IT contact or office manager is usually the right place to start.
If your administrator has approved Vinyl and you still can't connect your calendar, reply to this article or contact our support team and we'll help you investigate.
