The Vinyl mobile app makes it easy to capture in-person meetings and generate notes, transcripts, and action items automatically.
⚠️ In-person recording is only available through the Vinyl mobile app. It isn't possible to record an in-person meeting from the web browser. The app records the audio in the room through your phone's microphone, so it captures in-person conversations only — it does not record the audio of a phone or telephone call, even on speaker. To record an online meeting, use Vinyl on Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. If you're having trouble logging into the app, you'll need to resolve that first — see Resetting your account on the Vinyl Mobile App for help.
Start a new recording
You've got two quick ways to begin:
From the Home screen: Tap the red Record button to start a new meeting instantly.
From an upcoming meeting: Tap into any scheduled meeting and select Record to start capturing notes linked to that session.
Before recording starts, Vinyl will walk you through a short setup screen. You can skip this if you're in a hurry — it won't affect the capture.
Open the Vinyl mobile app
From the home screen, tap the Record button
Enter a meeting title (optional but recommended)
Tap Start Recording
If prompted, allow access to your microphone so Vinyl can capture audio. Once recording starts, Vinyl will begin capturing audio immediately.
I don't see a Record button, or I'm asked for a meeting link
If you open the app and land straight on a meeting screen asking for a meeting name and meeting link instead of seeing the red Record button, this usually means the app has opened into an online meeting flow rather than the in-person recording flow. This can happen if:
You tapped into an upcoming calendar event that doesn't have a Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet link attached — Vinyl still treats it as an online meeting screen rather than switching automatically to in-person capture.
The app opened directly into a specific meeting rather than the main Home screen.
To get to the in-person Record button:
From wherever you are in the app, navigate back to the main Home screen (not a specific meeting).
Look for the red Record button on the Home screen — this is what starts an in-person recording using your phone's microphone.
If you don't need the meeting linked to a specific calendar event, you can simply start the recording from Home and give it a title afterwards.

Pause and resume recording
If needed, you can pause the recording at any time:
Tap Pause to temporarily stop recording
Tap Resume to continue
This is useful for breaks or off-the-record discussions. Recording will pause automatically if you receive an incoming phone call — your phone can't run a call and let Vinyl capture audio at the same time, so this is also why Vinyl can't record a phone call itself. You'll need to manually resume the in-person recording once the call ends.
Finish and review
When your meeting ends:
Tap Stop Recording
Give the meeting a name (if you haven't already)
Add attendees (if you haven't already)
Tap Save Audio Recording
You'll find everything in your Vinyl mobile or web dashboard — full summaries, transcripts, and action items. You can assign speaker names to parts of the transcript and share notes with your team or clients in just a few taps.
Tips
For best audio quality, stay close to your phone and speak clearly. Background noise is filtered during processing.
Turn on Do Not Disturb to avoid interrupting your recording.
Don't lock your screen during a recording to make sure it saves properly.
