Why online meetings can't be paused
Vinyl joins online meetings as a bot participant — it connects to your Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom call just like any other attendee. Because recording happens through the meeting platform's audio and video stream, the only control available is whether the bot joins the call at all. There's no way for an external participant to pause recording mid-session in these environments.
So once Vinyl has joined, it records continuously until it leaves the call.
If you need to stop recording at any point during an online meeting, you have two options:
Option 1: Remove Vinyl from the call
You can remove the Vinyl bot from the participant list at any time. This stops the recording immediately. If you want Vinyl to resume later in the same meeting, you can reinvite it — but this will create a second, separate recording.
How to remove Vinyl from your meeting platform:
Google Meet: Click the People icon → find the Vinyl bot → select Remove from call.
Microsoft Teams: Open Participants → right-click Vinyl → select Remove.
Zoom: Open Participants → hover over Vinyl → click Remove.
Note: Removing and reinviting Vinyl creates two separate recordings in your dashboard. There is currently no way to merge them into one.
Option 2: Turn off recording before the meeting starts
If you know in advance that a meeting shouldn't be recorded, the cleanest approach is to turn recording off beforehand:
Go to your Vinyl Schedule.
Find the meeting and toggle Record off.
Vinyl won't join that meeting at all.
In-person meetings work differently — use the mobile app
Because in-person meetings are recorded locally through the Vinyl mobile app rather than via a bot joining a third-party platform, you have full control over the recording at any time.
To pause an in-person recording:
Open the Vinyl mobile app during your meeting.
Tap Pause on the recording screen.
Tap Resume when you're ready to continue.
Anything said while paused won't be captured or transcribed, and the recording won't restart on its own.
We hear the feedback
We know mid-meeting pause is something many customers want for online meetings. It's on our radar — if this is important to your workflow, let us know via the chat in the app.
